AKC Evaluator

My name is Jessie Hecht, CPDT-KA. I am a Certified Professional Dog Trainer and an AKC Evaluator for AKC Puppy STAR certification, Canine Good Citizen and Trick Dog Titles. I also have a BA degree in Special Education from Metro State University of Denver. I started professionally dog training over 7 years ago. I started with a mentor who specialized in training high drive and high energy breeds using positive reinforcement. Using that knowledge, I began volunteering and taking in foster dogs for a local German Shorthaired Pointer rescue with various special and behavioral needs. I also currently work part time as a Behavioral Consultant at The Humane Society of Boulder Valley. I utilize humane, science-based, positive reinforcement methods.

In my spare time I compete in various dog sports, primarily Dock Diving with my Australian Cattle Dog, Karma. We both got hooked on the sport, qualifying for Nationals every year since we started competing. This last season, we earned third place at Regionals. In the summer, I work with clients who want to get started in the sport. My eight year old German Shorthaired Pointer, Cadence is starting to slow down a bit, but still dabbles in FastCAT from time to time. She has otherwise been my running buddy for the last few years and the best rest day companion. As a former college athlete and marathon runner, I still enjoy logging a few miles from time to time on the Boulder trails and my newest addition to the family is Strider, a Xoloitzcuintli (AKA Mexican Hairless Dog). Strider was adopted from the Humane Society and currently learning that the world isn’t too scary. He has enjoyed taking over the role as my four legged running buddy.
